I was invited to speak at SREcon Europe 2016, which was scheduled for Monday through Wednesday of a week in July. Coincidentally, Kelcey was spending a month wandering Europe at the same time, so I stuck around for Thursday and Friday to explore the city.

- Day 0 - The conference ended on Wednesday, and Kelcey got in to Dublin later that night. After a hilarous dinner with Carolyn and Aunt Carolyn, we spent the evening playing Pokemon Go and plotting the next day.
- Day 1 - On Thursday morning, we got up and had breakfast at Grove Road, a fun little restaurant a few blocks down from the conference hotel. After that we started wandering north toward Connolly Station and our goal for the day: exploring Howth. On our way to the train, we made quick stops at Dublin Castle, the Ha'penny Bridge, the An Post General Post Office, the Dublin Spire, and a bunch of other little places. We also waded through about a million summer tourists, which we probably blended in with perfectly.
We eventually made it to the train station, got our tickets, and rode out to Howth. On our way out there, we stopped by a convenience store and bought some sandwiches for lunch, which we enjoyed on Balscadden Bay Beach. Before the beach, though, we made visits to St. Mary's Abbey and the Martello Tower, enjoying the scenery at both.
After lunch on the beach, we started exploring the walking paths along the Howth cliff walk. We spent most of our time wading through groups of German school kids, which gave Kelcey a chance to practice the language she studied in high school. After making it to the summit and seeing the lighthouse, we wandered back via the old trolley path. We made our way back to the train station from there, and headed back to Dublin for dinner.
But before eating, we stopped at Trinity College and were able to watch the start of a cricket game. Cricket is one of those games that no American actually understands, a fact that gave us plenty of fodder for making up rules and traditions.
- Day 2 - Kelcey went back to London on Friday morning, giving me a day to explore on my own. I started out with a nice breakfast on the canal, and then headed up to the National Museum of Ireland's Archaeology building, where I spent a bunch of the day. Eventually I did some birthday shopping, took some time to lounge about at St. Stephen's Green, and just generally wandered the city. After having a nice dinner on the canal, I went back to my hotel room to rest up and prepare for an early morning trip to the airport.
